Let's face it: There's so much content these days, the user is inundated with texts, videos and blog posts of all shapes and sizes on multiple types of social media platforms, not to mention websites and off course all the streaming options - it's no wonder people find themselves being pulled in all directions, and their attention span squeezed. But that isn't good for anyone (not to mention unhealthy). You spend so much time creating all that content, how much of it do you think your customers, or prospective customers, remember?
Fortunately, you have a secret weapon. So secret, that it's out there in the open. It's been around for centuries, and been successfully used in books, stage, movies, and of course, the advertising field. It's called humor.

You're giving your readers, users, customers and potential customers a fresh perspective that can also put a smile on their faces. That's already a win-win for you.
Have you scrolled in your LinkedIn or other social media feed lately? So many types of content looks the same. With humor, you can make yours stand out - in a positive, memorable way.
It's easier to create a piece of content with humor. Why? Because by adding that element, you're giving yourself a lot more option on how to approach your content. So for example, instead of: 5 highly effective ways to increase customer engagement (which many people may skip. After all, "highly effective ways" content pieces are a dime a dozen on Google) you could write: 5 witty, effective ways to increase customer engagement.
Humor can make your piece of content more viral (i.e. "sharable")
Humor can give you new angles to promote your product or service, such as a blog post about: How to survive Thanksgiving dinner without reaching for each other's throats. Or: What not to say on your first day on the job.
Sometimes all you need is a funny (and relevant) image and a good line that goes with it. What kind of line? That's why your copywriter gets paid!
Because at some point people get no longer inspired by "inspiration" quotes. Insert a Mark Twain or Groucho Marx quote, or a Spaceballs meme, and people are more likely to ask "what's so funny?" And that'll get the ball rolling.

Humor triggers emotional response. It makes your brand more memorable, and your content more viral. As long as you remember to keep it in good taste, never use it against your own audience, and never be mean-spirited, it could do wonders for your brand.
