One of the more memorable recent Super Bowl commercials

And because of the convenience of online and social media, while TV's behemoth commercials are already long ready to roll - some readily available online for viewing, even before the big game - you can wait until a day or so, or even the eve, the day of the big game, or even during it, to make some creative copywriting and content. You can even wait till (almost) the last minute to make references to the teams participating in the big game. So, without further ado, here are 12 Super Bowl copywriting tips to help you prepare for the big game:

  1. Write a headline that's relevant: a) from a topic pov b) product point of view c) customer point of view. Example: "You're at the 1 yard line for 60% off! Click NOW or you'll receive a 'delay-of-bonus' penalty and only 20% off."

  2. Keep it short. Because, you know, short attention span and all that. Also, leave detailed information for the website/blog/product description.

  3. Put a LAUGH in it: The Super Bowl and humor have been a loving couple for decades. And you don't need a big budget or special effects for that.

  4. Alternatively, put a SHOCKER in it. This will work, especially on hard-hitting social issues.

  5. Once you realize who the two teams playing are, research as much as possible about the teams, players, and cities. Interesting facts and andecdotes you can easily slide into your copywriting or virtually any other type of content, from blogs to banners, social media posts, PPT presentations, etc.

  6. Be glued to social media and football updates: So you can post and make your own comments/responses to what's going on in the big game.

  7. Don't have a big budget to get celebrities? No problem! You've got a full arsenal of the English language to play on the latest trends, news, and celebrity gossip and use them for your advantage. But you need to act swiftly...

  8. Remember, you don't have to write a lot of text to deliver a message.

  9. Be open for last-minute changes

  10. Be ready to be inspired on game day and during/after the game. Remember the old adage: Be there or be square!

  11. Use football quotes

  12. Alternatively, you have a treasure trove of great quotes at your disposal, such as: “The NFL, like life, is full of idiots.”
